Privacy policy
Short version: we don't want your data.
What we collect
- Postcodes you search are sent to our server to look up coverage. They are used for the lookup and short-term caching only, and are never linked to you — we don't ask for or store names, emails, or accounts.
- Outbound clicks on provider links are logged (timestamp, which provider, an anonymous click reference) so we can reconcile affiliate commissions. No personal data is included.
- Server logs may briefly record IP addresses for security and rate-limiting, as virtually all web servers do.
- Your last search (postcode and optional current speed) is saved in your own browser's local storage purely so your results reappear when you return. It never leaves your device as stored data, and clearing your browser data removes it.
What we don't do
- No analytics trackers, no advertising cookies, no fingerprinting.
- We never sell or share data with third parties.
Consent for browser storage
The optional last-search memory only operates if you choose "Remember it" on the banner. Choosing "No thanks" stores only that choice (so we don't ask again) and nothing else. You can change your mind any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Third parties
Postcode lookups use the open postcodes.io API. Coverage data is Ofcom open data processed on our own server. If you click through to a mobile network, that network — and for affiliate links, Awin or Impact, who track the referral — will set cookies under their own privacy policies. Affiliate links are marked sponsored and disclosed on the page; they cost you nothing.
Who we are and your rights (UK GDPR)
This site is operated by Austin Pickering as data controller. Lawful bases: consent for the optional browser storage; legitimate interests for anonymous click logging and security server logs. Click logs contain no personal data and are kept only for reconciling affiliate commissions; security logs rotate automatically. You have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold (which is, by design, essentially none), to object to processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
